Despite the dot.com bust, there's still a boom in tech jobs in Iowa.
The shortage of qualified tech workers means there's a job surplus for Iowans with the skills to contribute to this rapidly growing industry. (Yes, there is outsourcing, but the number of jobs in the U.S. continues to rise by the thousands!) As educators, you play a critical role in encouraging students to take STEM classes during high school. You also have the opportunity to inform youth about how pursuing a tech major - or even a minor - at a post secondary institution, will set them up for lucrative careers in an otherwise difficult job market.
Companies aren't just looking for math and science whizzes; they want people who can think logically, communicate clearly, learn quickly, and have a wide variety of interests. This means all of your students can benefit from HyperStream and from an infusion of technology in their classroom experience. Whether they complete a two- or four-year program or a master's program, a tech degree or minor from a school in Iowa prepares them for success. Along with tech classes, business, math, science, English, social sciences, and foreign language courses in high school and beyond will equip them with everything they need to take off in the professional world.
Also, HyperStream wants educators to have insider knowledge on Iowa technology. Ambassadors from Iowa tech companies will actively participate in school activities and even offer job shadowing for teachers in summer 2009! This Web site includes Ideas for the Classroom blogs, separated by subject, where you can share your thoughts and best practices with other educators throughout the state. Plus, Iowa colleges offer a bunch of exciting camps and competitions for students to get a taste of all technology has to offer!
